Hartzell's story began in 1875 when founder John T. Hartzell scraped together just $25 to purchase a wagon. He traveled from farm to farm selling merchandise to earn enough money to build a sawmill.

Over the next century and a half, Hartzell continued to innovate:

• 1875 – John T. Hartzell founded the business in Ohio.

• 1917 – The company entered aviation manufacturing, producing aircraft propellers.
