151 Years of American Manufacturing: Why Hartzell's Legacy Still Matters

Celebrating American Manufacturing This Fourth of July

As America celebrates its 250th birthday this Independence Day, it's worth recognizing the manufacturers whose history has helped shape American industry.

For more than 150 of those 250 years, Hartzell has been designing and manufacturing products in the United States. That kind of longevity is rare in today's industrial marketplace and it's one of the reasons BA Associates is proud to represent Hartzell Air Movement throughout New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.

When engineers specify industrial fans, they're investing in equipment expected to perform for decades. Choosing a manufacturer with a proven history of engineering excellence and long-term support can make all the difference.

A Story That Started With $25

Hartzell's story began in 1875 when founder John T. Hartzell scraped together just $25 to purchase a wagon. He traveled from farm to farm selling merchandise to earn enough money to build a sawmill.

What started as a small entrepreneurial venture eventually evolved into one of America's most respected manufacturing companies.

Over the next century and a half, Hartzell continued to innovate:

  • 1875 – John T. Hartzell founded the business in Ohio.

  • 1917 – The company entered aviation manufacturing, producing aircraft propellers.

  • 1927 – Hartzell introduced its first industrial fan featuring an advanced airfoil wheel design that delivered approximately 20% greater efficiency than competing designs of the era.

  • Today – Hartzell Air Movement continues designing and manufacturing industrial fans in Piqua, Ohio, under sixth-generation family leadership.

Few industrial manufacturers can point to that kind of uninterrupted heritage.

Why Manufacturing Heritage Matters

In industrial facilities, reliability isn't measured in months—it's measured in decades.

Whether you're specifying a process exhaust fan, corrosion-resistant FRP blower, make-up air system, or heavy-duty centrifugal fan, you want confidence that replacement parts, engineering support, and application expertise will still be available years down the road.

Companies with long manufacturing histories often provide:

  • Proven engineering backed by decades of field experience

  • Stable product platforms with long-term parts availability

  • Strong factory engineering support

  • Continuous product improvement without sacrificing reliability

  • Manufacturing expertise built over generations

That level of consistency is especially valuable for critical industrial applications where downtime is costly.

Proudly Manufactured in Ohio

Every Hartzell industrial fan is built in Piqua, Ohio, where the company continues its tradition of American manufacturing.

For customers, that means more than simply carrying a "Made in USA" label. It represents quality craftsmanship, close collaboration between engineering and manufacturing, and responsive factory support throughout the product's lifecycle.

At BA Associates, we work with engineers, OEMs, mechanical contractors, and industrial facilities across New England to select the right Hartzell solution for each application. Knowing the equipment is backed by more than 150 years of manufacturing experience provides an added level of confidence.

Supporting Industry Across New England

BA Associates proudly represents Hartzell Air Movement throughout:

  • New Hampshire

  • Maine

  • Vermont

Whether your project involves process ventilation, corrosive exhaust systems, make-up air, heavy industrial ventilation, or custom fan applications, our team works directly with Hartzell's factory engineers to provide application support and product selection.

Celebrating 250 Years of America—and 151 Years of Hartzell

This Fourth of July marks an important milestone for our country. It's also a reminder of the companies whose innovation, craftsmanship, and commitment to American manufacturing have helped build it.

For 151 years, Hartzell has remained committed to designing and manufacturing industrial fans in the United States. BA Associates is proud to bring that legacy to customers throughout New England.

If you're planning an upcoming industrial ventilation project, we'd be happy to help you select the right Hartzell solution for your application.
